90sq. ft. of Awesome: A Small Kitchen Remodel
Today we're sharing another reader story courtesy of Linn from The Home Project. Linn and her husband remodeled their entire kitchen, from the floors to the cabinets to the countertop. If you'd like to submit your home improvement story (and get rewarded for it), check out our ProjectPub program. When my husband and I bought our small bungalow, the kitchen was one of the first things we wanted to take care of (right after refinishing the floors and painting the walls). It seemed the previous owners had not changed it one bit from when it was first installed. The countertop and ...
How to Build a Heavy Duty Workbench
This weekend we built the first of four heavy duty workbenches for the OPC workshop! This project was very simple, and the design works not only for a workbench (as we're using it), but also for sturdy storage shelves in a basement or garage. We built a two-shelf bench, but this design can be easily modified for three or four-shelf models. Our goal for each workbench is an inexpensive, free-standing, movable table that can support a lot of weight (400+ lbs. total), with no perceptible deflection along the entire 8' length of the upper shelf. We intend to use the lower shelf for tool ...
Make Stylish His and Her Artwork for Your Bedroom
While I was away, Jocie whipped up some pretty impressive artwork to hang over our bed, continuing our bedroom make-over. Ever since returning from the Urban Oasis tour in Chicago, she's been itching to release some of her pent up creative energy. I think they look pretty darn good and was shocked when she told me she only spent about $6 total. When envisioning the room, Jocie wanted a neutral palate, using grays and whites while adding fresh green accents through out the room. The letters on the wall art match the green in the DIY lampshade and our window panels. Local ...
How to Reupholster Dining Room Chairs
There's a couple of projects on my "no-fly list", and usually it's because I don't have the proper equipment, and sometimes it's because I don't want to die. Today's post shares a venture that doesn't fall into either of those categories. Even so, it was out of my league. What's this dangerous, mysterious job, you ask? Upholstery. I have no idea how to reupholster furniture! Fortunately, Jocie and her mom let me tag along as they gave our dining room chairs a much-needed makeover. The results are great, and I've captured the DIY instructions for you in this article. As you can ...

How to Frame a Mirror for a Dramatic Upscale Look
This post comes to us courtesy of Lindsay at Southern Lovely! We found a great DIY framed mirror on Lindsay’s site and asked if we could share the “how-to” here on One Project Closer. We think this mirror looks fabulous, and the project is a really simple tackle that you can do in just one day at a fairly low cost. If you have a large flat mirror in your bathroom and want to dress it up, this project will do it. If you’re not already a reader of Southern Lovely, Lindsay’s a mom of three, and enjoys “taking...

Long Overdue: SKIL Multi-Tasker Oscillating Tool Review
We hate being tardy, but we’re awfully late to the game on reviewing this entry in the oscillating multi-tool category. Skil shipped us the Multi-Tasker several months back, and we just haven’t been doing many projects that require an oscillating tool. For the projects that have required one, we’ve been using our Rockwell Sonicrafter or Dremel Multi-Max, interchangeably. Getting around to a third (nay, fourth – not to forget about our Ridgid JobMax cordless model) hasn’t been top of mind. Now, don’t...

Make your own Ballerina Birthday Outfit
Lucy, my baby, is about to turn ONE at the end of this month! I can’t believe how fast the past year has gone. As you can imagine, we are very excited and the party planning has begun. When Izzie turned one, I searched for a “Birthday Girl” shirt and, while very cute, I felt like I could top that with Lucy. This was a much easier project than expected and was more time consuming than anything else. Here are the step-by-step instructions so you can make your own complete outfit at home! The T-Shirt This shirt idea was...
